FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What piercings do you offer?

We offer-

  • Ear Piercings: Lobes, helix, forward helix, conch, tragus, flat.

  • Facial Piercings: Nose

Can I bring my own jewelry?

For safety, quality, and healing purposes, all piercings are performed exclusively with jewelry curated and provided by our studio. We do not pierce with outside jewelry. This ensures proper materials, sizing, sterilization, and optimal healing.

How old do I have to be?

Must be 18 years or older with a valid government-issued photo ID. Minors must be accompanied by a legal parent or guardian, and both must present valid government-issued ID. The minor and guardian must share the same address, verified by identification.

What happens after piercing?

Your piercer will provide personalized aftercare instructions and ensure all your questions are answered. All piercings begin with initial jewelry sized to accommodate natural swelling that occurs during the first stages of healing. Once your piercing has started to heal, your piercer will check the progress and determine the right time to downsize to your long-term jewelry. This ensures a safe, comfortable, and well-healed piercing.

What is normal during healing?

During the healing process, it is normal to experience mild bleeding, localized swelling, tenderness, bruising, itching, and slight discoloration around the piercing site. You may also notice a whitish-yellow fluid that dries and forms crust around the jewelry. This is a normal part of healing and is not pus. As your piercing heals, the jewelry may feel tight or may not move freely. Do not force, twist, or rotate the jewelry. Healing times vary from person to person, so following your aftercare instructions and avoiding unnecessary touching will help support proper healing.

What to Avoid?

• Avoid cleaning with alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, iodine or harsh products — they damage cells.

• Avoid ointments; they block air circulation.

• Avoid products with Benzalkonium Chloride (BZK) such as Bactine.

• Avoid over-cleaning, which can delay healing.

• Avoid friction, rough play, and contact with others’ bodily fluids near the piercing.

• Avoid stress, drugs, excessive caffeine, nicotine and alcohol.

• Avoid swimming in pools, lakes, and hot tubs during healing.

• Avoid makeup, lotions, sprays and other products near the piercing.

• Do not hang charms or change jewelry until the piercing is fully healed.

When should I seek a doctor?

Please contact a healthcare provider if you experience:

• Severe redness, swelling, or pain that continues to worsen.

• Thick yellow, green, or foul-smelling discharge.

• Red streaks extending away from the piercing site.

• Fever, chills, or feeling generally unwell.

Note: Inked Gems cannot diagnose infections or medical conditions. If you have concerns about your piercing, consult a licensed healthcare professional.

~ Caring for your piercing ~

• Cleanse piercings twice per day for a minimum of 8 weeks. If piercing still feels tender after the 8 weeks, continue cleansing twice per day.

• Wash your hands thoroughly prior to cleaning or touching your piercing.

• Use Hypochlorous acid spray/Saline to clean your piercing. A spray is recommended — using a Q-tip can leave small remnants of cotton behind and can hinder healing. Do not use any other solutions.

• If needed, gently pat dry with clean, disposable paper towels. Cloth towels can harbor bacteria and snag on jewelry causing injury.

• Check that the earring front is secure every few days. Do not move or rotate your jewelry.

• Sleep on clean bedding and avoid sleeping on the side where you’ve been pierced. Use a piercing pillow or sleep on your back.

• Downsizing your post is recommended 8–12 weeks after your initial piercing unless it still feels tender.

• Piercings and people heal at different rates. Be patient and gentle until fully healed.
